Pitop Viewer is free software, distributed under the GPL-3.0 licence. These terms cover its use and the use of this website.
The app is released under the GNU General Public License version 3. You are free to use, study, modify and redistribute it under that licence's conditions. The full text and the source code are available on GitLab.
Personal or commercial use: no restriction, no payment, no licence to purchase.
As set out in the GPL-3.0 licence, the software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
Rotation, cropping, adjustments, filters and EXIF editing write directly to your original files. Every write is atomic — the file is first written in full alongside the original, then renamed — so a crash or power loss cannot leave a truncated file. EXIF metadata and ICC profiles are preserved.
That reduces the risk without eliminating it. Keep backups of photos you care about, as you would with any software that writes to your originals. Deleting images goes through the macOS Trash and is therefore reversible.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the author shall not be liable for any loss of data, file corruption, loss of business, or any direct or indirect damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, this software.
The app contacts our servers on each launch (see the privacy policy). This mechanism counts installs and allows a version with a serious defect to be disabled if necessary. It is not intended to restrict your use, and the app works normally when the server is unreachable.
The app checks for new versions and can install them. Packages are signed, and the signature is verified before installation. You may skip an update; older versions keep working.
Download the app from viewer.pitop.fr or install it through our Homebrew tap. We cannot vouch for the integrity of copies obtained elsewhere.
The app is signed but not notarized by Apple — notarization requires a paid developer account. macOS therefore asks for a confirmation on first launch: the procedure is documented here.

Any third-party trademark mentioned — Apple, macOS, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Adobe and others — belongs to its respective owner and is named for descriptive purposes only. No affiliation is implied.
These terms are governed by French law. The GPL-3.0 licence prevails in the event of any conflict concerning the software itself.
